PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, the Stranahan High School Class of 1967 is observing it's 45th Class Reunion on Friday, July 13, 2012 at the National Guard Armory at State Road 84 and SW 4th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale; and

WHEREAS, Stranahan High School was established in 1953 on land donated by Ivy Cromartie Stranahan and was named for her late husband, Frank Stranahan; and

WHEREAS, the Class of 1967 Reunion Committee: Emily Drews, Kathy Pierce Haines, Ron and Susie Streicher, Tom Griffey, Gary and Jane Townsend and Gayle Eaton, decided to hold their 45th Reunion event at the Armory in tribute to the famous Armory Friday Night Dances of the 60's and 70's: and

WHERAS, playing at the Armory Flashback Dance are the legendary Jesters, the original "dance hall" rock band who started playing Armory dances in 1961; and

WHEREAS, the Jesters was originally fronted by the late William "Bill" Markham, former Broward County property Appraiser. In 1959, the band was taken over by his  brother Mark Markham and Dean Young who play together to this day; and

WHEREAS, members of the Class of 67 fondly remember the many Friday nights spent at the Armory dances especially after football games when the cheerleaders would attend in their cheerleading outfits and kids from surrounding schools (Stranahan, Fort Lauderdale High, Northeast, Nova and others) would attend too; and

WHEREAS, the Class of 67's Armory Flashback Dance Reunion featuring the Jesters is a sold out event and is likely to be the last event held at the Armory; and

WHEREAS, The Mayor and City Commissioners are delighted to issue this proclamation to the Stranahan High School Class of 1967, and do congratulate them on reaching this amazing milestone, and do thank them for their contributions towards making Fort Lauderdale the vibrant city that it is.

NOW THEREFORE, WE, as City Commissioners of the City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida do hereby proclaim Friday, July 13, 2012 as:
Stranahan High School Class of 1967
45th Reunion Day
in the city of Fort Lauderdale and do congratulate the Stranahan Class of 1967 on reaching this significant milestone.
